Week 1-1 Reflection

1.) Micro Session Summary

There are challenges to overcome in today's education. Therefore, as future educators it's important to be aware of these challenges in order to have a successful learning environment for our students.

2.) The Biggest Thing I Have Learned:

Wow! Who knew I can learn so much from one section! The biggest thing I have learned from this section is how many challenges educators face in today's society. Such as increased diversity, technology that becomes available to educators (i.e. computers), and of course greater accountability. There were many things I learned but these three points are the things that stuck out to me because although many people do not consider these things to be challenges I believe that they can be. For instance, increasing student diversity can be a fantastic thing, however there can be a challenge of, perhaps, a language barrier. If this were to occur I would want the student to receive extra help so that they do not fall behind since it is something that can be easily resolved. Another issue is technology! Technology is great however maybe the school doesn't have a budget to have enough computers for the students. And not just computers but also other electronics such as a smart board, a projector, and so on. So as educators we have to plan a lesson so that every student has an opportunity to use these devices as learning aids. Since I for one, am a visual learner. Computers and something as simple as a projector definitely have helped me to become a better learner. Lastly, educators today have such a huge responsibility to make sure that every student does well in the course. I feel that in the past the accountability wasn't as high for educators. But as society would point out, we have new tools at our disposal, so every student should do well. Right? Well I guess I would say no because no matter how many new tools an educator may have, it is ultimately up to the students to also use these tools and create the best learning experience possible. In my opinion, society has to realize that learning is an effort that has to come from both teacher and student, it is a 50/50 effort. Of course, these challenges will never cease to exist since there are factors that cannot simply be controlled (such as a learning disability) but it's our jobs to create the best learning environment possible no matter what kind of student one may encounter.

The link above shows how educators at this particular school believe how a non-traditional classroom environment can aid in a student's learning!!

3.) Do You Have Any Questions Or Concerns About Course Learning?

The only concerns I have thus far is how do I post a picture or video onto my blog? Since the little tools in the dashboard aren't letting me post/download anything into this blog.
